Andy Warhol - The Moderna Museet Exhibition Catalogue

Andy Warhol - The Moderna Museet Exhibition Catalogue

$325.00

This rare and early Warhol catalogue is a fantastic example of the catalogue-as-artist-book and is one of the more fun catalogues to look through.

What really makes this catalogue essential is that the majority of this book is full-page black and white amateur photos documenting the work, parties, hanging out, and day-to-day life at the Factory by Billy Name.

[Billy Name] became the Factory’s official recorder when Andy gave him his 35-mm camera and Billy began taking great photographs of the action, which he developed in an impromptu darkroom converted from one of the toilets.

These photographs, as collected in the 1968 Moderna Muséet catalogue of Warhol’s first European retrospective in Stockholm, constitute the best visual documentary of the Silver Factory.” -Voctor Bockris, Warhol: The Biography

Instead of essays, the catalogue includes short quotes from Warhol. This publication is where his most prophetic statement was seen in print “In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes.”

The catalogue also contains images of all of Warhol’s iconic early works, including his earlier silkscreens that deal with the notion of repetition (coke bottles, money, etc.). These works, in my opinion, are some of his best.

The cover is great, too.

This 3rd edition (1970) is in really nice shape. The cover is exceptionally bright, the spine is intact and clean. There is a small 1” tear at the bottom centre of the front cover. This is a tough catalogue to find, especially in nice shape.
