This is super rare. I’ve honestly come across more copies of their first catalogue from 1981 than I have of this newsletter. The only other copy I’ve seen is in the Wrong Answer Archives (WAA). Items like this typically end up in institutional archives.

This was likely sent out to Memphis Milano stockists and friends and family. There were few stockists in these early days, so very few of these were produced. And fewer survived.

The newsletter consists of Sottsass interviewing himself, essays by Emilio Ambasz and Andrea Branzi as well as an incredible FEED-BACK section featuring reviews from notable Memphis Milano clients such as Karl Lagerfeld, Dieter Rams, Elio Fiorucci, and more.

Most notably, this catalog was entirely designed by Sottsass Associati.

An important and early document of one of the most important 20th Century design movements.

The back is one of my favorite moments in layout design, with the image of the angry (or ecstatic) dog in a car. Unbeatable.
